Subject: RedRegistration v3.0 Released

RedRegistration v3.0 E-Commerce is now available for immediate download.

March 1, 2000
Subject: RedRegistration v3.0 new features added

  1. Registration codes can now be disabled over the internet.  This implementation allows you to call a function giving a server address and file location.  If the file exists, the function will return TRUE. In your program you will append the users registration code to the file path, and call the function. If you receive a true, this means that the file exists on the server.    To disable a code, just create a blank file, with the name of the registration code that you wish to disable, and the function will return TRUE.  You will still need to add code to handle this, the easiest would be to consider this an unregistered user.

This is not a perfect solution by any stretch of the imagination. The function is designed to only check if an internet connection exists. It will not cause the dialer to connect to the internet if Dial-Up networking is used.

This function supports SOCKS server connections, but this would require you to collect this information from the end user.   RedRegistration shares connection information with RedUpdate, so the RedUpdate connection control panel can be distributed freely to the end user as a simple way for their connections to be configured.  This will seem very odd to an end user unless your program uses RedUpdate to automatically download updated programs.  More discussion on this will follow.

  2. A new function has been exposed for all, IsInternetConnected. This will return TRUE if there is a live internet connection, without the need to auto-dial.

Subject: RedRegistration v3.0 new features added

  1. Registration information can now be saved to a file. This file is encrypted, using the blowfish algorithm. This feature will soon be enhanced to also store the Number of runtimes spent values, allowing for a higher security.

  2. The default registry path for saved values can now be changed. Two new functions allow you to select the root key of the registry, and the default section.

  3. RedRegistration is being delivered in two packages, as a single DLL. E-Commerce and Standard. The E-Commerce version will allow RegNow to automatically generate codes for your end users. This feature is considered a separate product, and will require an additional purchase. Developers that do not wish to upgrade may continue to use RedRegistration v3.0 with their current registration code, gaining all of the new features except for the E-Commerce related features.

Version 3.0 has been completed. Current users of RedRegistration may request a private link to download the new version. Documentation is incomplete, but is scheduled to be completed by March 31, 2000.  A public link will not be provided until the documentation is complete.

RedRegistration v3.0 E-Commerce adds support for RegNow and other companies to automatically create registration codes for your software.  The codes that are created will always be time limited codes, expiring in 45 days. This will allow the end-user to immediately start using the software, and allow time for the payment to be processed before a full code is sent.  Only the developer can create a non-restricted code, so it will still be necessary for you to generate codes, and deliver them.

If your payment processor is not listed, and you would like to see them support RedRegistration v3.0, contact them and request that they contact RedBaron Software Company at this address, vendor.support@redregistration.com. RedBaron Software Company will provide all the necessary support to the processor, including source code and phone support.  RedBaron Software Company reserves the right to deny this service to any processor.  The processor will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
